drunk love heart

Nearly three years ago I planted a blog with a few funny words, a lot of heart, and absolutely no idea what I was getting myself into. I called it Drunk Love Heart after a poem I wrote once. I put some poetry in it and pictures of my experience and encounters with life. When I found I couldn't convey my feelings or funny visions all the way in a photo, I began to make drawings. I never knew I could make drawings, but my impatience for not being able to share my observations overrode any insecurity I may have had around producing art.

This thing I made took off pretty quickly. People responded with great enthusiasm and wanted more. I didn't plan for it to become a thing I would always do, but after a short time it didn't matter what I planned or didn't plan - it began "doing" me - all I could do was step aside and let it happen.

As I rode the wave of my apparent "calling" doors began flying open. I was invited to read my words at local venues, which inspired me to produce my own multi-media events. Bringing community together, I asked others to share from their hearts. Some friends and I produced a video called How To Make a Poem which opened more doors... I was invited to participate in other community organized events, business socials, high school class rooms, writing workshops, festivals and fundraisers. Most recently - to my great delight - I found myself on stage at a real TEDx event with 6 other amazing women!! And last month I released my first cd! Whoa - all this from writing down a few poems and drawing a few pictures.

~*~ Poetry is born when we allow ourselves to resource the tenderness of our human heart and transmute our vulnerabilities into a direct and  powerful language that unlocks the mysteries of the soul. My service is to help unleash new perspective on this age old art form. Pull it from off the dusty shelves of intellectualism so it may be seen as the living breathing heART expression it was always intended to be. Everyone is a poet, everyone has the potential to access the magical place where love lives in every interaction, every breath, every embrace of nature and every embrace of our natural selves.
